From the Guizhou region of China come the most unique root carved wood products. Called Shan Mu, each basket, bowl, or plate is handcarved from the root of an individual tree.
Each piece is produced by skilled wood carvers from start to finish, and takes many hours to complete.
When a tree is harvested, the base or stump is left in the ground for six months to a year then removed to begin its journey into becoming a truly unique piece of handcarved art.
While the main portion of the trees from this renewable logging forest become hardwood planks and flooring, what one might consider the lowliest part of the tree becomes a beautiful piece of art that lives on. Each is a unique piece in color, texture, and grain that you will be proud to own and display.
